This month we will be reading Writing My Wrongs, by Shaka Senghor (2016). Here's the description:
"In this deeply personal and compulsively readable memoir, Shaka Senghor recounts his spiritual transformation during the 19 years he spent in prison for murder. Senghor reaches back to his own childhood — he began dealing crack as a 14-year-old boy on the streets of Detroit — to examine the events leading up to his taking another man’s life. He then chronicles his halting progress at changing his life in the brutal world of the Michigan prison system. The book deftly resists many of the tired tropes about people in prison. Senghor unflinchingly takes responsibility for his crime — his many crimes, really — and simultaneously pinpoints numerous places where a little love and support (and investment in his inner-city community) could have gone a long way towards steering him right."
