"Heavenly Father, you sent your Son Jesus to rescue me. Now may I listen to your invitation to be sent in Jesus' name. Amen."
Song for Reflection: I Will Follow
Scripture Reading: John 21:15-19
At the end of the Gospel, Jesus has this strange conversation with Peter. Jesus keeps asking if Peter really loves him. For Jesus, what is the expression of that genuine love? Not just loyalty, or passion - it is a faithful commitment to "Feed my lambs" and "Take care of my sheep."
Sheep, of course, are the people of God. Some stay close to the herd. Some have wandered off and become quite lost. Either way, all sheep need ongoing direction and care and investment. The responsibility of the one who would love and follow Jesus is to become a good shepherd, just like Jesus. God has put so many people around us who need shepherding - the children of our church, in our home, new Christians, Christians who are in a different place in their journey, neighbors who are lost from God and need a voice of care and stability in their lives. Who are the sheep God has placed around you? Are you ready to let your love of God teach you how to become a good shepherd?
Jesus gives his followers a purpose. Today, what is your sense of purpose?
What does this Scripture tell you about your sense of purpose in this life?
We have all kinds of goals in life. But how might God be inviting you to connect to his purposes for your life?
"God, give me the courage to follow you into new places and to new people. In Jesus' name, Amen."
